Bryan was always passionate about taking on apprentices. Having completed an apprenticeship himself at a young age, he felt it was the best way to get into the construction industry, and he loved nothing more than passing on his wealth of knowledge to future generations.
It took a little time for Bryan to get established, and he couldn’t take on any apprentices for the first few years when he set up in 1980. However, in 1986 he employed his first apprentice – 16 year old John Mellody, a masonry work trainee. John worked hard and passed his apprenticeship, continuing to work for Bryan for a number of years after. Five years ago, John returned to his roots and came back to work for Bryan Lee Builders, coming full circle and hopefully finishing his career where it began.
Over the years we’ve taken on many many apprentices, and passed down what is collectively hundreds of years of knowledge and experience. Currently, we employ two Joinery apprentices, Logan and Kenny (seen to the left). Both are doing exceedingly well and progressing quickly, and we envisage a bright future both of these brilliant lads.
Another way we try to give back to our community is through work experience placements. We work closely with local schools and colleges, offering work experience placements wherever we can. Over the years we’ve offered hundreds of work experience placements to students interested in the industry. A name that springs out here is Ben. Ben came to us on a work experience placement whilst studying joinery full time at college. At the end of his placement, he came into the office and enquired about further employment. Having shown some initiative and a willingness to learn during his placement, we offered him a role as a trainee joiner with us. That was 7 years ago. Today, Ben is still with us and has become a valued and integral part of our family here.
